Maui – Volcanos and Beaches

Maui – Volcanos and Beaches

After we returned the car in Oahu, we shortly checked in the First Class and waited at the lounge for our flight. With one hour delay we departed to the Island Maui. The flight was that short, that Tracy had to ex her beer. Arrived on the Island, we were a bit surprised about the baggage logistic. Which was outside and shared the place with the chicken. This chickens you can find everywhere in Hawaii. We picked up our GMC car and went 1’000 m.a.s.l. up to the Kula Lodge.

3.30 mornings we had to stand up to drive to the Haleakala Volcano. Arrived at 3’055 m.a.s.l it was freezing zero decrease cold and we waited for the sunrise. The reddening in the dawn was beautyful. But we saw the sun first later on the day. After breakfast we went to the cinema and watched Aquaman. We spend the afternoon in Lahaina where we pre-booked a Luau feast in the Old Luau. They welcomed us with Lei and Mai Thai and seated us on our place at the front row. First, we learned a bit of the Hula dance and watched the how the Kalua-pork was dogged out from the ground. We really enjoyed the food and the show. It was a wonderful evening.

On New Year’s Day, we went up early to make the Road to Hana. The street alongside the coast is definitely worth it. Also, if it needs a lot of concentration to drive this road. We had a bath in a waterfall (without swimming wests), went through a lava cave, ate lunch in Hana and hiked the muddy Pipiwai Trail. It had a lot of rain in between. We were so stunned and enjoyed the beautyful nature of Maui. On the way back, I thought we could do a little short cut that we don’t have to go back the whole Road to Hana. So, we definitely had to use our 4-wheel car. After our Surf n’ Turf dinner, we had some time to look for a location to spend the rest of our New Year’s Eve. Finally, we found an Irish Pub and started with Pina Colada and Firework into the New Year. Andi was our driver and so we went into a police control. After showing his driver licence, we could already drive on.

We spend our first day in the new year with a long sleep and a breakfast with a view in our lodge. There we had a beautyful look over the Island Maui. Our beach tour started at the Hookipa Beach Park and ended at the Big Beach. At the Big Beach, I finally dare after a long while to go into the wavy sea. We had a nice and calm day and enjoyed the comfort of Maui.
