Oahu – Welcome to Paradise

Oahu – Welcome to Paradise

After a long 21 hours flight, we finally arrived in Honolulu by night. The warm climate welcomed us and we also got a free upgrade with our rental car. We drove with our Jeep Wrangler to the booked Air BnB at the Waikiki Beach. We enjoyed our first breakfast in paradise at the beach. In the heat, we drop our roof from the car and drove to the Outlet Centre and later to the Ala Moana Centre. After this shopping trip, we spend a while looking for a restaurant without waiting for over an hour. Finally, we find it at the Tiki Grill at the beach. I had a fish combination with the two local fish Ahi and Mahi. The real names of these fishes are too long to remind them.

Mornings we spend some time with looking for a place to have breakfast. At Waikiki Beach, it was not that easy as we thought. With our Jeep we drove around the whole Island Oahu. First stop was the Blow Hole at the feet of Koko Head. Further we went alongside a beautyful coast to the Temple Valley. There we visited a Japanese Temple. For lunch we stopped at a food truck for some garlic shrimps. You can find these food trucks on a lot of places here in Hawaii and are really to recommend. Good, fresh, local and cheap food. On the north shore at the Surfer beach Sunset Beach, we enjoyed the nature. Andi and Tracy went to swim a bit in the waves. After we went back south, we stopped in the Waimea Valley and walked inside a botanical garden to a waterfall. In the waterfall you could go to swim. Unfortunately, with swimming suites where I decided to just watch the waterfall. Back in Honolulu we needed some time to search for a restaurant. Finally, we find a Grill Pub with delicious meat and beer.

Breakfast with flip flops at the beach. Is there anything more beautyful? Shortly after we went to the Diamond Head where it started to rain. Even with the rain it was warm and we had some good hiking shoes. So, on we started our climb up to the landmark of Honolulu. At the top we had a beautyful view. Back down we went to Pearl Harbour. Unfortunately, the entry for the Arizona Memorial was sold out. Tracy and me got an alarm on our mobile phone. A bit shocked we read the push message which announced a storm in Honolulu. In heavy rainfall we went back to Waikiki. We ate at the Cheesecake Factory and Andi had to drink a Cools light. So, he also had the fully “American beer” experience. We learned from the search for a restaurant and so we booked online already a table. This time in a Mexicano Restaurant at a Roof top.
