Madrid – Enjoy Life

Madrid – Enjoy Life

After three business visits in Madrid, I needed to have a closer look at the capital of Spain. Already by this view visits before, where I didn’t have the chance to see a lot, I was fascinated by this city.

So, I spend my flight miles and arrived on Friday afternoon. My metro card loaded with a four-day pass, I had to drive around 30 minutes into the centre to my pre-booked pension. Close by, I went for lunch around 15 pm. I got a free Gin Tonic as well as some calamary bread which is typical for Madrid. With new energy I went shopping and the street called Cuencarral at the Malasaña quarter. Evenings at around 22 pm, I walked at the Calle de Ponzano where a lot of Tapas bars are located. Insight a nice restaurant I had good wine and food. Later some locals joined me and we started to talk. I travelled alone so they just took me with them for going out.

On Saturday morning I slept long. Before 10 am it didn’t have a lot open anyway. So, I went for breakfast around 11 am. Later I walked through the pretty alleys of Malasaña till Plaza de España and up to the Templo de Debod. It’s an Egypt temple with a nice view over Madrid and the king’s palace. Further I went with the Metro to Sol where a lot of shoe stores are located. I walked from there to Plaza de Santa Anda and Plaza Mayor as well as to the Mercado San Miguel. This city is just beautyful and fascinating. I went to a small restaurant for some lunch and walked back to Gran Via and the street of Fuencarral. There I found also a market where I snacked a good Spanish red wine from the region and Tortilla with black truffles. During my walking I found a Flamenco Show which I visited. At the evening for dinner I drove with the Metro to the station sol where a lot of restaurants and bars are located.

On Sunday morning the sun was shining and no clouds at the sky. After a delicious breakfast, I walked to the Palacio Real, the king’s palace. There I visited a cathedral where a church service has been taking place. I went further to the river Rio Manzanares and passed a viaduct, the door of Toledo and the park at the river. There I enjoyed the sun. With the metro I’ve visited the Retiro Park. On this sunny day maybe half of Madrid was there. The park offers a lot of coffees, sights like a beautyful lake with little boats and the glass palace. I fell in love with the pictures landscape of the glass palace in its nice autumn colours. Evenings I had dinner at the Brutal Bar which offers really special drinks and a nice ambiance.

I enjoyed the Monday morning with breakfast and walking through the streets of Madrid. In the afternoon I had to go back to the airport and to Switzerland.

I am really fascinated of the city and nice people here. Madrid is with the culture, shopping possibility’s, nice ally’s, good food and wine as well with the beautyful quarters a city to live and enjoy life. I totally fall in love with this city.

  1. The city looks really quite nice in late autumn. Especially the head picture showing the glass palace looks rather beautiful. Happy first Advent.
