Russia – Sankt Petersburg

Russia – Sankt Petersburg

The six hours flight from Irkutsk to Moscow without any entertainment program went by hard. We’ve done the half hour stopover in Moscow and my honey, which I bought on the airport was throw away, but not my water bottle. I don’t understand the logic behind it but anyway, we arrived in St. Petersburg. Our accommodation Pension Swiss Star is in the center of the earlier Tsar capital and looks nice. We went to the Shopping center around the corner and had a really delicious Chinese dinner. Tired of the jetlag and travelling, we went early to bed. You couldn’t believe how awesome it is after sleeping one week on hard beds to have a really nice comfy mattress.

Here in St. Petersburg the night has only a view hour of darkness. So, we woke up early also regarding our Jetlag. After breakfast we walked to the street called Nevsky Prospect where the most thing is going on. After a coffee break we walked further to the beautiful winter palace and the Palace place over the Palace bridge to the Peter and Paul Fort. There we visited the Peter and Paul Cathedral where the mortal remains of all the Tsar rests. Back over the Troitskiy bridge we had Tapas for lunch. The Isaak Cathedral was really impressive. I visited this and also went up to the dome. That was a bit of a challenge for me with fear from the highs. We walked on the other side of Nevsky Prospect down do a sweet and delicacy shop. For dinner we went from a recommendation to the Restaurant Idiot. The restaurant was in a cellar and you had food here what a typical Russian family cook and eat.

We wake up late, we walked a bit around our quarter. Here it has a lot of rivers which makes this city more sympathy for me. After a manicure, lunch and a shopping round we went back to the pension to prepare us for dinner and the ballet. The drinks and foot in the restaurant Sadko was really delicious and the location beautiful. It was next to the famous Mariinsky theater where we enjoyed the ballet swan lake. For me in was awesome and a perfect ending for this journey. The outbound went by quick and easy. No one asked us about the many sheets we got on every destination.

The journey in Russia was for me a beautiful experience which I would like to repeat once.

The food was a lot with sour cream. If to Pelmeni, vegetables, in soups, for bread and sauces. The bread was sometimes with herbs but it tasted quite good. The most toilets were unisex. And the Russian people are really open, friendly and interested to tourists. But to understand a bit Russia and to read Cyrillic is a big benefit to survive here. Not even in Moscow or St. Petersburg can speak and understand the people other languages then Russia. A good language guide is necessary.

Lake Baikal, Siberia and St. Petersburg didn’t have me for the last time.

  1. Your descripton of the trips sounds like a lot of fun. Very nicely chosen pictures. I especially like the monestary. One almost feels right there in Russia. Interesting to know that English is not that widespread in Russia. As always a pleasure to read.
