Spain – Experience and Enjoy Sevilla and Madrid
After a three-hour
bus ride, I arrived in Seville. In a few minutes’ walk I arrived already in my
room in the centre. I explored the city and went to the Alcazar. As it was
already evening, I got a ticket without queuing and enjoyed the visit and my
aperitif in the garden of the complex.
The next day I visited the sights of Seville. The Cathedral, the Bullring, the
beautiful Plaza de España and the Torre del Oro. I enjoyed the beautiful warm
weather which I missed the last few days here in Spain. Next, I strolled
through the Triana quarters and walked to the Basilica de Macarena through the
whole city. Seville has beautiful buildings and you can explore the city on
foot. So, I enjoyed my last day in Andalusia before going to Madrid by express
train the next day.
The train
ride from Seville to Madrid was over quickly with a good book in hand and the
passing landscape. My brother came by plane for a long weekend to Madrid where
we enjoyed and experienced the city together. I’ve been to Madrid a few times
in the last two years and the city just charmed me. That’s why I was so happy
to show my brother Madrid. In Sol we met in the rain and were able to check
into our apartment. The rain stopped and so we went to the Plaza Mayor and the
Mercado San Miguel where we ate a variety of Spanish specialties for lunch.
That my brother can also take Madrid to his collection, we walked to the Hard
Rock Cafe. Rather, we ran. It started to storm and to hail and so we dried
there with a beer. The storm was over quickly, and so the sun was shining
again. We went to the Palacio de Cibeles where we enjoyed a cava on the roof
with a view. Fortunately, for dinner, I had booked a table in the Brutal Bar
and Restaurant. They were fully booked and we could enjoy our delicious meal.
Early in the morning we went to Plaza de España where we booked a tour to Toledo. We drove to the city which was a one hour away and stopped at some nice viewpoints. In the bus they gave us some tips and so we could enjoy the day in this beautiful and old city. We visited the mosque el Cristo de la Luz, saw from the outside the Cathedral of Santa Maria (extremely many people were queuing), went up to the tower of the Jesuit Church (San Ildefonso), we continued to look at the synagogue, went to the monastery Monasterio de San Juan de los Reyes and also strolled through the streets of the city which was built over 200 years BC. The city used to be considered an important armoury, which today is well seen by the many sword and weapons shops. After a stopover in our apartment we looked for a restaurant to eat on the Calle de Ponzano. There are tapas bars and restaurants one after the other. You just have to experience it.
After a good breakfast we visited Madrid on foot and by metro. We strolled through the Malasana area further to the Plaza de España to the Debot Temple, where you have a good view of Madrid’s outskirts and the Royal Palace called Palacio Real. In the Almudena Cathedral was just a service which we visited only briefly. Continued over the viaduct and strolled through the La Latina district and its neat little streets. In the Churreria Los Artesanos 1902 we fortified ourselves with churros and hot, liquid chocolate. Next, we walked to the Opera to the train station Atoche and from there to Retiro Park where many flowers bloomed. The glass palace in the Retiro Park is beautiful as always. There is so much to see in Madrid and you can easily explore everything on foot and just stroll through the many pretty streets. For the evening we booked a Bar tour at AirBnB. The tour was great and our guide took us through the Malasana and Chueca quarters to breweries, cocktail bars, other bars and clubs.
