Hong Kong – First Stop

Hong Kong – First Stop

It’s finally starting. The first stop on my trip around the world is Hong Kong. The flight with Swiss passed quickly and so we took the bus to the hotel which is in the middle of the Tsim Sha Tsui area. We ate dinner and enjoyed the Hong Kong Island skyline from the Avenue of Stars.

After the breakfast, we took the Star Ferry to Hong Kong Island. When we arrived on the island, we first got an Octopus card. With this card you can pay for the metro, the bus, the ferry and sometimes also in restaurants and cafes. I can only recommend it to everyone. Since the tram up to Victoria Peak was in renovation, we had to take the bus. With a clear blue sky and a pleasant 19 degrees, we enjoyed the view of Hong Kong. Later we walked around in the Soho area and ate, as it should be, the typical Dim Sum. There we had an aperitif on the rooftop bar called Picnic and watched the sunset. Back on the ferry to the mainland, we dined at the Gordon Ramsey restaurant and watched the Symphony of lights show. The show was okay, but the skyline itself is beautiful to enjoy anyway.

We took the metro to Lantau where we take the gondola up to the Big Buddha. The view was breath-taking and so early in the morning we were almost alone. We walked up the stairs, looked at the Buddha ourselves and strolled from the monastery to the Wisdom Path. After lunch we participated on aa Chinese tea ceremony. In the evening we strolled through the -Ladies market in Mong Kok and tried the food from the street. I had to try the curry balls and the bubble waffle.

What I am so excited about here in Hong Kong are the many public and very clean toilets. The people here are very friendly and helpful. Since it is low season, there were few people and tourists. Unfortunately, much of the city was destroyed by the demos.

We got up early in the morning to use the hotel gym. This was closed due to renovations. Nevertheless, we trained a bit in the hotel room. Later we drove around with the Dschunke, a Chinese ship, and were able to get on the ferries wheel for free. In Soho we ate Lebanese where the service employee turned out to be Swiss and served free baklava for dessert.

As Disney fans, we couldn’t help it and so we visited Disneyland. The best thing about this Disneyland was that we had to queue almost nowhere and could see everything. It is a bit smaller than others, but the day was still a lot of fun. For dinner we enjoyed Korean BBQ in a high-rise building with a view of Hong Kong.

After checking-out, we headed to the Historical Museum. This was also free of charge and we were able to learn everything about the creation as well as from the Han, Ming and Quin dynasties to the modern times. With the Airport Express we also got to the airport quickly. To get into the airport we first had to show our travel documents and passports. The flight of 6 hours was a little too short to sleep for this overnight flight. But we arrived safely in Perth, Australia.
