Into the East – of lakes and castles

Into the East – of lakes and castles

Ljubljana

During the eight-hour train ride, I really enjoyed the landscape from Hungary and Slovenia. At the evening I arrived in Ljubljana and after check-in, I walked around the beautyful lighted streets of the capital. In the Restaurant Juljia I ate a delicious venison filet with truffle mashed potatoes. I walked along the river Ljubljanica were many bars are located and enjoyed a mulled vine. Many people enjoyed the nice air of the night outside.

Early in the morning we meet for a tour to the Slovenian Alps. Together with our guide we were only 4 people. First, we drove to lake Bled were we had a ride with the Bleder boat which is an old tradition who goes from father to son. Arrived at the island with the church and a coffee, we enjoyed the Potica which is kind of a cake with walnuts. It is not to sweet so for me it was really delicious. Further we went to the castle of Bled and enjoyed the view over the lake. We walked alongside the promenade from the city of Bled where it is also the origin of the Cremschnitte. Further we had lunch next to lake Bohinj and ate the meal Joti. We drove to the end of lake Bohinj where it had a lot of snow and is the beginning of the Sava river. The landscape and turquoise water which goes through the forest is breath-taking. I will definitely once go again back to Slovenia to see and explore more of this stunning landscape and nice country.

On my last holiday, I walked around the beautyful capital of Slovenia, Ljubljana. I went over bridges to a huge market which is every day. The domestics buy here with baskets all kinds of fresh product. I could shop here every day. Here you find fresh herbs, vegetables, fruits, basket, bred, fresh juices, schnapps, own produced things from wood and fabrics and so on. I love market like this. You can find here also a 24-hour milk-o-mat where you can take fresh milk. Further I walked up to the castle where I visited it for a few hours. I walked the whole day around the city and enjoyed the flair and good food. At the evening I had to took the direct night train from Ljubljana to Zurich.

To travel with interrail and alone is beautyful but tiring as well. You had to organize yourself and had to settle in all few days anew. But you can also experience a lot and many good things. Most are the people helpful and friendly when you give them a smile.
