Short trip to Verona – La dolce Vita

Only a view hour’s drive from Switzerland you can find the romantic city of Verona. Perfect for a short rest time and a longer weekend. Verona is a city in Italy in the province of Venezia and famous for her history of Romeo and Julia. The city is since 2000 a world cultural heritage.

So, what can you do in this romantic city in the north of Italy?

Walking:

The centre of Verona is small and has the figure from a heard. The Adige River goes around the centre and is reachable from a lot of beautyful bridges. The city is all and great to explore everything by walk.

Drink some coffee:

Italy is famous for the good coffee. It is beautyful to sit outside from a bar on a Piazza and drink a coffee or a hot chocolate or eat a delicious Gelato (ice cream). During this you can watch the people. That’s the real “La dolce Vita”.

Piazza della Erbe:

Piazza della Erbe is a good start and finish point to explore Verona. The typical houses and architecture from Italy makes this Piazza a charming place to drink a coffee or go shopping in the Via Giuseppe Mazzini.

Verona Arena:

The Verona Arena is a well preserved Roma amphitheatre. During the summer time, you can enjoy operas or just visit the Arena. 10 Euros entry is a bit much but the Arena is stunning to visit.

Casa di Giulietta with balcony:

The balcony is built after the story of Shakespeare “Romeo and Julia”. The House of Julia was a part of the palatial construction which was built in the 14th century and in possession of the Familie dal Capello. The Balcony is quite small and a lot of people visit it but a short view of the balcony from Julia is worth it.

Castelvecchio and Ponte Scaligero:

The castle build with bricks in the 14th century is today a museum. We had luck and on every first Sunday of the month is the entry only 1 Euro. The museum is not really interesting but the castle themselves is beautyful and nice to view. After a visit of the castle I recommand to go over the bridge “Ponte Scaligero” in front of the castle. The bridge looks beautyful and from there you have a nice view.

Ponte Pietra:

Ponte Pietra is a old Roma bridge over the Adige River to/from Verona. It is really a nice bridge and if you walk over from the centre to the other side you will have a nice picture with the old city in background.

Punto panoramico Castel S. Pietro:

From the Ponte Pietro you can go up to the view point next to the castle San Pietro. From here you have a awesome view over Verona.

Lake Garda:

The beautyful lake Garda is located close to Verona and a visit definitely worth it. It is the biggest lake of Italy and around a lot of nice cities and local markets.

Eat and drink:

When you go to Italy, you have to go in one of the many good Italian restaurants. If a tasty Pizza or fresh made Paste, the choice is big and delicious. In Italy, you can find many types of “Restaurants” and each one of them has its own charm:
Pizzeria: A good Pizzeria belongs to Italy. Who didn’t like a fresh baked Pizza?
Bodega: Bodega is a wine cellar where you can find beside a good choice of wine delicious food to go to eat.
Osteria: Is a typical restaurant with traditional Italian food.
Enoteca: Is a wine store where you also can find small dishes.
Trattoria: Is like a Osteria an Italian restaurant but with more simply dishes.

The wine yards of Verona offer many good and famous wine. Amongst other is there the Amarone and Valpolicella. You have to taste this wine’s.
